A complicated kindness / Miriam Toews

Sixteen year old Nomi Nichol and her father, Ray, live in a strict Mennonite community where Nomi tries to make sense of what remains of her family. Her rebellious older sister, Trish, left years earlier, and her mother left after being excommunicated from their fundamentalist Christian church by her own brother, the paster known to Nomi as "The Mouth". Nomi's father is dealing with his own dispair, selling off most of their furniture and escaping on night-long drives. Nomi herself deals with the clausterphobicly conservative community with rebelliousness.
