Portfolio development and the assessment of prior learning : persepectives, models and practices / Elana Michelson ... [et al]
Although portfolios are not a new tool in demonstrating performance, the prior learning assessment portfolio adds a means of demonstrating learning both in the classroom and as a means of articulating prior learning through life experiences. Through portfolios, an adult learner is able to document knowledge and skills gained over years of work experience, community involvement and individual study in order to be credited for legitimate learning outside the post-secondary experience. The portfolio provides a bridge for the student to reflect on their prior learning by encouraging self-exploration. Thus, the student is able to identify what they still need to learn as well as identify gaps in their education.
Portfolio development and the assessment of prior learning provides twelve models of how people have adapted their portfolios to reflect their academic learning.
